The top division of German football, the German Football League (GFL) consists of 12 teams playing a 12 game season. The GFL is divided into the north conference and south conference in which each team plays it rivals twice, once at home and once away, for a total of 10 games. Additionally, each plays two inter-conference games, one at home and one away, against a designated opponent.
The regular season kicks off in late April, with the hard-nosed action continuing through early September. Generally, each team plays one game per week against both domestic and other European opponents.
The season culminates in the German Bowl in September, usually drawing between 17,000 and 23,000 football aficionados, with a record high of 30,400 attendees in 1999. |
